Letter to the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District Board of Directors - Mar 26, 2002

Dear Directors:

The League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark and Union City requests that you postpone taking a vote on redistricting at this time.

Citizens need to have a clear picture of your various redistricting plans so that their input is informed. You have put census tract numbers in blocks on your web site, but if a person does not have the background to interpret these numbers, the information contained in them is completely unintelligible.

Since the purpose of putting information on the web is to inform the public, we request that the information be printed in a form that the average person can interpret. A vote should not be taken until this is completed.

There are models for providing comprehensible information. The Alameda County Board of Supervisors and the Alameda County Board of Education have both provided clear redistricting information on their web sites.

The League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark and Union City suggests that you take a look at their formats and create one of your own that will fully inform the electorate before you put your redistricting to a vote.

Sincerely,

Alexandra Starr, President
