November 2002 Testimony for the Washington Hospital Board

My name is Alex Starr, and I am here speaking for the League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark and Union City.

One of the goals of the League is to advocate for open government.  We continually encourage public entities to include citizens in the processes of government.

In the Tri-City area our three City Councils, our three School Districts, Fremont’s Planning Commission and Ohlone College are currently broadcasting their meetings on public access channels.  Some of the meetings are shown live, and others are delayed.  We would like to have the Washington Hospital Board similarly available to the public.

We have a letter from the City of Fremont that you all have a copy of indicating that the City feels this Board’s proceedings would be an appropriate program to show on their government TV channel.

Since you already have video capacity in the Conrad Anderson Room, the League is requesting that you take action on this request and work with the City of Fremont to provide the public with the opportunity to view your meetings on television.

Thank you.
