| The League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark and Union City supports
a strong inclusionary ordinance for the City of Fremont. We believe it
is one of the tools necessary for the advancement of affordable housing
in Fremont. Most of us already acknowledge that our children cannot afford
to live here. And it is certainly true that all of the wonderful people
who have service oriented jobs have a very difficult time finding housing
here. We want to ensure that in the future those who work here can afford
to live here, thus stimulating the local economy even more.
We salute the city staff and the planning commission for their hard work in putting this measure together. Without their determined efforts this proposal would not be possible. We are proud of our city’s diverse population and feel that this ordinance will help keep it diverse. We would like to see a higher percentage than 15% but will support it and the other important elements of the proposal. |
