ELECTION CALENDAR
PRIMARY:
First Tuesday after the first Monday in March of even numbered
years. Major purposes: to choose party candidates for national and
state offices; to elect delegates to national party conventions; to elect
local candidates to qualified-party central committees; to vote on state
and local measures placed on the ballot by referendum or initiative; to
elect county and judicial officers. If no candidate for a county
or judicial office receives a majority of all votes cast in this election,
a run-off election must occur the following November.
GENERAL DATE:

MUNICIPAL, SCHOOL, AND SPECIAL DISTRICT DATES:
Dates vary by jurisdiction, any of the above days and months in any
year. Major purposes: to elect mayors, council members, boards of
directors and trustees; to vote on local measures placed on the ballot
by referen-dum and initiative.
OTHER DATES: Special elections may be required on other
dates due to initiative, referendum or recall petitions circulated by voters. |
