The Honorable Jane Doe
United States Senate
Washington D.C. 20510

Dear Senator Doe:

I am writing to express my concern about the recently proposed tax increase on ink products (Senate Bill 2469) that I read about in my local newspaper last Sunday, September 2, 2001.

As I understand the bill, it would raise the tax on ink sold in the United States by 50% and I want you, as my Senator to know that I am totally opposed to this bill.

In my business I make extensive use of ink and the new tax would cost me nearly $100,000 per year, which could put me out of business within a short time.

Knowing that printing is a very important industry in our state, I am asking you to vote “NO” when this bill comes before the Senate for a vote.  I firmly believe that a “NO” vote by you would be in the best interest of your constituents.

Would you please write to me at the address below and indicate your position, as well as the reason why you agree, or disagree, with my recommended vote?

Thanks you very much for your consideration.

Sincerely
Thomas Paine
